Z Historia Wisły

alt=In Polish

Kazimierz Kmiecik (born September 19, 1951, in Węgrzce Wielkie) with the aliases "Suchy" (Dry) or "Badyl" (Stem) is the all-time leading goal scorer in Wisła's history with 304 league appearances and 153 goals scored in the span of 15 years (1968-1981, 1983). He was a four-time top goal scorer of Polish league, a golden (1972) and silver (1976) Olympic medalist from Munich and Montreal, as well as a bronze medalist in the World Cup (1974).

Kazimierz Kmiecik started his career in local LZS Węgrzcanka Węgrzce Wielkie, where he trained from 1961 to 1965. He spent the next two years at Cracovia, and in 1968, still as a teenager, he joined Wisła Kraków. He represented the club until 1982, with a break to play for SC Charleroi in Belgium in 1981. After leaving Poland for the second time, he settled in Larissa, Greece (1982-1985), winning the Greek championship title in 1983 as well as the country's cup. Due to difficulties tolerating the heat, Kmiecik decided to move to Stuttgarter Kickers in Germany (1985-1988), followed by OFV Offenburg (1988-1989).

He played 34 matches for the Polish national team and scored 8 goals. He made his debut under Górski's tenure (against Ghana in 1972), but he mainly served as a substitute, given the presence of goal scorers like Grzegorz Lato and Andrzej Szarmach.

During the 1974 World Cup in Germany, he only played in the matches against Sweden and Germany (a total of 40 minutes). The next coach, Jacek Gmoch, did not call up Kmiecik. His last match for the Polish national team was against Colombia in Bogota (July 9, 1980).

After finishing his career, he became a coach and focused on training Wisła players, a role he continues to fulfill to this day.

His son is the former Wisła striker, Grzegorz Kmiecik.
